AWAKEN REFRESHED:  GET A RESTFUL NIGHT'S SLEEP WITH HYPNOSIS

Finding Peace at Night

Going to bed at night should be like finding a personal sanctuary where both your mind and body can properly rejuvenate. Unfortunately for those wrestling with insomnia, trying to get a good night's rest can be a tortuous experience.

If you are struggling to get the rest you need, you are not alone:  Insomnia affects between 10-30% of all adults worldwide and it can last for months or even years. Getting proper sleep is not merely a luxury, it's essential, as sleep affects your mood, your memory, physical recovery, and your immune system.

Recognizing the Telltale Signs of Insomnia

Insomnia typically manifests in one of two ways, either as an acute condition or in an ongoing chronic form.

Unusual stress from atypical situations such as environmental changes, job loss, immediate work or school pressure, romantic breakups, or grief can all result in acute sleeplessness.

Chronic Insomnia, on the other hand, typically lasts for at least three nights per week and may persist for three months or more. Underlying health conditions, medications, caffeine, alcohol consumption, and other lifestyle factors can contribute to the development of Chronic Insomnia.

The typical symptoms of Insomnia are:

  • Difficulty in falling asleep

  • Difficulty in sleeping deeply

  • Shallow, easily disturbed sleep

  • Frequent waking

  • Trouble returning to sleep after waking

  • Waking too early in the morning

  • Non-restorative sleep

  • Persistent fatigue and drowsiness after waking

  • Irritability and impaired mental functioning during daytime activities

The Ripple Effect of Sleeplessness

There are few common ailments more unpleasant than insomnia. Sleeplessness negatively impact every facet of a person's life:  It takes away your ability to focus, it saps your energy, and deprives you of the ability to really enjoy life.

What is more, prolonged insomnia is nothing to take lightly, as it can significantly increase a person's risk of serious mental and physical health conditions. These include issues such as depression and anxiety, impaired cognitive functioning, memory and concentration problems, a weakened immune system and higher susceptibility to serious illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.

Older adults are more prone to insomnia, largely due to hormonal shifts as a person ages. There are various medications available to treat insomnia. However, many of them have serious side effects with long-term use.

How Hypnotherapy Can Help

Hypnotherapy offers a viable complement to traditional medical and psychiatric approaches to treating insomnia. Often, the root cause of insomnia is some form of anxiety or past trauma. Hypnotherapy can help a person directly resolve these stressors. By using direct suggestion, visualization techniques, and training in self-hypnosis, hypnotherapy can also help a person take direct control over their own sleep experience.

All of these approaches are designed to rewire the unconscious mind and can help a person escape the negative thought loops that tend to drive insomnia, thus allowing them to experience restful, restorative sleep.
